Nearly 48 years ago, Mister Rogers went to Washington to save public media funding. At the time, the President proposed cutting funding in half. Fred Rogers's heartfelt congressional testimony not only stopped the proposal but led to future increases in funding.

Fred Rogers's testimony proved that when we stand up for what we believe in, we can create positive change.

Today, the President's budget recommends eliminating all public media funding. Congress hasn't made funding decisions for public media yet, giving us an opportunity to voice our support and save funding.

On May 5, 2017, join us in honoring Fred Rogers's legacy and tell lawmakers that public media funding matters to you.

Before or on May 5, 2017:

  • Pick out a Fred Rogers-style sweater or cardigan from your closet - any color will do!
  • Take a photo of yourself in your sweater or cardigan.
  • Go to protectmypublicmedia.org/beautiful-day-upload/ to post your photo and share your story.
  • You can also post your photos on our Facebook wall or Twitter with the hashtag #ItsABeautifulDay.

Let's make May 5, 2017 a beautiful day to remind our neighbors that we support public media funding.
