Job Summary

Develops and implements KUED-Channel 7 community outreach campaigns and activities which strengthen the bond with the community by addressing local and regional needs, promote viewer satisfaction, deepen the reach ofKUED programs and complement KUED goals to reaffirm KUED’s position as a valuable community resource. This is accomplished through community outreach campaigns built around local and national programs and initiatives, complementary print materials, special events, reversioning KUED productions for the classroom, and on-air interview and follow-up programs.

Responsibilities

1) Determine, in association with Director of Creative Services, the community outreach efforts that KUED will undertake. This involves assessing outreach opportunities for local productions and select programs in the national schedule.
2) Recruit, organize and oversee community advisory groups and/or volunteers for each campaign.
3) Conceptualize, coordinate, budget and implement local and national Community Outreach campaigns. Campaign design includes coordination with programming and production; promotion through on-air, print, radio and theKUED web site; design and print supplementary material to accompany major events; develop and implement community tie-in events.
4) Design outreach plan and budget for Development Department so that they can secure funding for outreach campaigns. Assist in locating and securing additional funding by attending sales calls with underwriting representatives, when appropriate.
5) Produce KUED’s public service program, CONTACT. Book and schedule guests, coordinate taping with appropriate KUEDpersonnel. Maintain web page for CONTACT and BILLBOARD. Coordinate and produce CONTACT in the Community online segments with digital media team that are produced on an occasional basis. 
6) Supervise and delegate projects to outreach assistant and review progress. This includes the production of BILLBOARD (weekly community calendar) arranging and hosting preview film screenings, writing program announcements for community calendars.
7) Develop, produce and distribute KUED targeted mailings, resource guides, etc.
8) Send outreach materials to appropriate community organizations.
9) Represent KUED at special events and design presentations that tie-in with outreach campaign objectives.
10) Update Outreach Web page for outreach activities including resource information and links to other informational web sites.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, related field or equivalency; three years relevant experience required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communications skills also required.

Expertise with local media markets and knowledge of statewide, regional and national media preferred. Five years experience as a public relations practitioner or related field may be preferred.

Preferences

Experience in television production and editing techniques including, but not limited to, “live tape” productions preferred. Expertise with local media markets and knowledge of statewide, regional and national media preferred. Five years experience as a public relations practitioner or related field may be preferred.
