ROUGHSIDE OF THE LENS FILM PREMIERE PRESENTED BY MONSTER ENERGY, HALF AND HALF SKATE SHOP AND ROUGHNECK HARDWARE
Salt Lake City, Utah – The Salt Lake Valley was introduced to a new kind of skateboarding competition this past September: Roughside of the Lens. Fifteen teams of skaters and videographers hit the streets to get the best raw footage. The teams had an eight hour time limit, at the end of which they had to submit their footage.
Eric “Fergy” Ferguson, a Salt Lake City–based videographer and film editor, was tasked with compiling the best footage into a full-length film of the contest. Once this was finished, the film was sent out to four notable industry professionals in Utah and beyond. “By using judges from both a local and national level, SLUG's goal is to spotlight Salt Lake’s monumental skate scene,” says SLUG's Community Development Manager John Ford.
First, Andy Pitts, a renowned industry graphic designer who has worked with a litany of companies ranging from AntiHero Skateboards to Venture Trucks. Second, pro-skater and SLC native Adam Dyet. Third, Jacob Smith, the Global Skate Director at VOLCOM. Last but certainly not least, we have Benjamin Pellegrino, co-owner of the Utah-based company Milosport.
“SLUG's stacked slate of judges provides local skaters the opportunity to have their video parts considered by industry professionals—whom have both local and global representation,” says Executive Editor Angela Brown.
The film premiere will be Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Post Theater at the University of Utah. Admission to the screening will be $5.
Teams will be awarded First Place, Second Place, Third Place, Best Trick and more.
