The Western Mining & Railroad Museum proudly presents an exhibit developed in conjunction with local area schools highlighting the history of rail in Helper City.
Helper, whose very name is derived from helper engines used to pull coal trains up Solider Summit, is a natural fit for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad. Our focus is to leverage this key, historic event and combine it into a year long study of ourĀ railroading history with our local area schools. The year will end with the Western Mining and Railroad Museum hosting the opening of "The Power of Rail - A Journey into the History of Helper." This winning combination will drive local area interest as well as create a high quality exhibit guests to the area will enjoy and learn from. More importantly, it will engage our local area youth and get them excited about our railroading history.
