As we enter the sixth week of the 2025 Utah State Legislative session, the finish line is in sight! With less than two weeks remaining, we're seeing significant movement on key bills and continued focus on the state budget. Your ongoing engagement is vital as we navigate these final stages and advocate for the arts and culture community. 


Budget Update:

The Executive Appropriations Committee is in the final stages of crafting the state budget. We anticipate the release of the proposed budget early next week. We are prepared to analyze the budget's details, particularly funding levels for arts and culture, arts education, and related initiatives. We will share a comprehensive analysis with you as soon as possible after the budget is released, highlighting any areas of concern or opportunity for advocacy. 

Bill Updates:

  • SB161: Cultural and Community Engagement Amendments: Assigned to House Economic Development and Workforce Services. We are closely monitoring any final actions on this bill and will provide a summary of the final version and its implications for the arts community. 
  • SB137: Course Choice Empowerment: Currently in House Rules Committee. We continue to track its progress and assess its potential impact on arts education. 
  • SB102: Public Education Funding Modifications: Assigned to House Education Committee. We will provide an analysis of the final version of this bill and its impact on arts education funding. 
  • SB292: Ticketing Delivery Amendments: We continue to monitor its progress as it is currently through the Senate but has not been assigned a House Sponsor.
  • SCR2: Concurrent Resolution Encouraging Practices that Promote Child Independence: PASSED
  • HB267: This bill has been signed by the Governor and is now law. We are reviewing the final version and will provide a summary of its potential impact on the arts community. 
  • HJR 8: House Rules Committee. We continue to monitor its progress and will provide updates as it moves through the House. 
  • HB324: Assigned to Senate Revenue and Taxation.  We will continue to track its progress and analyze any potential impact on arts education.
