Students will work with the model to communicate positions, quick draw exercises, or extended time draws, etc., which will allow students to continue their study of the figure.  There is no instructor during this open studio session, so it is suggested that students who register have figure drawing experience. Wake & Draw is meant to be a creative meeting place for artistic people to share their techniques and skills on a community setting. Come by and try it! STONE SCULPTURE

9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
With Matty Lawler
$360 + $100 materials fee.
(Marble and handmade wooden stand included).
For adults ages 17+.

Join local sculptor Matty Lawler for a trip back to the golden Renaissance era and carve like Michelangelo once did with white marble, a hammer, and a chisel. Each student will get a 15-30 pound block of marble to work with. Matty will teach a traditional approach to carving using hand tools (no power tools). Matty will guide the class teaching specific carving skills and techniques, while the students have the artistic freedom to create a three-dimensional sculpture of their choosing. By the end of class, students will learn the art of sanding and polishing to create a beautiful finished product. Carving stone with a hammer and chisel like the classic sculptors of the past is truly amazing. It is rewarding to experience a finished sculpture made by your own two hands. Unleash your inner sculptor! Matty learned his stone sculpting trade in Italy while training under American artist Glen Ball, and has been working with stone for over 14 years.
