§  In a SAANBox update, the appointment of President Trump's cabinet nominee for Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos was confirmed on February 7. Senate Democrats debated throughout the night on February 6 in a last attempt to sway other Republicans to vote nay. Republican Senators Lisa Murkowski (AK) and Susan Collins (ME) had previously stated publicly they would vote against DeVos. The U.S. Senate's vote was split 50 to 50, prompting Vice President Mike Pence to cast a historic vote to break the tie in favor of DeVos. DeVos was officially sworn into office at 6:00 pm Eastern on February 7.
