All audience members will be invited to award a commission for a new work by participating artists. Afterwards, all will join performers on stage for live music and dancing with the Joe Muscolino Band! Buy Tickets RDT ON THE ROAD  This month RDT will be offering Residencies in Wyoming, South Dakota and Washington.  October 3-6 // Laramie, WY As guests of the Department of Dance at the University of Wyoming. Public Performance: Oct. 5th, Laramie High School Auditorium.   October 7-9 // Rapid City, SD Serving as "Artists in Residence," RDT dancers will teach numerous classes (including creating a new work with student dancers) as part of the state-wideDance Network of South Dakota Annual Conference.    October 10-13 // Moses Lake, WA Public performance: Wednesday, Oct. 12th at the Wallenstein Theatre on the Campus of Big Bend Community College, presented by Columbia Basin Allied Arts.  In addition to public concerts, RDT campus and community residencies include lecture demonstrations, workshops and movement classes. RDT works with each presenter to help create a residency appropriate to the community.  In Moses Lake, for example, company members will be working with Moses Lake Christian Academy, Ballet Academy of Moses Lake, Othello High School Drill Team, a group of students with Down syndrome, the Senior Center, and Ephrata Parks & Recreation Dance.    RDT AT THE ECCLES THEATRE GRAND OPENING OCTOBER 21 // 7:30 pm A once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience the first performance at the Eccles Theater. Tony Award-winning performer Brian Stokes Mitchell and “Smash” television actress and Tony-nominated Broadway performer Megan Hilty will be accompanied by the Ballet West Orchestra, led by award-winning conductor/arranger Kurt Bestor. They will be joined on stage by some of Utah’s finest performing artists, including Ballet West, the University of Utah Department of Theatre, Utah Opera Chorus, and a first-of-its-kind jointly performed piece from Repertory Dance Theatre and Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company. This is a "black-tie" event and all ticket holders will be invited to join a post-show celebration on Regent Street. Smith: Distinguished Alumni University of Utah College of Fine Arts honors Linda C. Smith for accomplishments as an alumni Salt Lake City, UT -- Repertory Dance Theatre is proud to announce that Executive/Artistic Director, Linda C. Smith is being awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award by the College of Fine Arts and the University of Utah for the discipline of Dance. The Distinguished Alumni Awards celebrate the legacy of excellence the College of Fine Arts has established in art, dance, film, music, and theatre and its continued impact on the creative capacity of all disciplines at the University of Utah. A native of Utah, Linda C. Smith began her career in dance at the age of four with Virginia Tanner’s Children’s Dance Theatre. In 1966, she become a founding member of Repertory Dance Theatre where she fulfilled her dream of becoming a performer, teacher, choreographer, writer, producer, and eventually the Artistic Director. Her performing experience spans more than 90 works. She has taught in more than 1,000 schools, bringing the magic of dance to students and teachers with her unique demonstrations, lectures, classes, and professional development workshops. Smith has dedicated her life to making the arts relevant and to communicating the value of dance in the life of a community by encouraging audiences of all ages to imagine, create, and communicate with the language of movement. For more than half a century, RDT has pushed the boundaries of modern dance, while preserving and celebrating its legacy. It was radical when Linda Smith and other Utah modern dancers beat out the big city stalwarts to receive a Rockefeller grant establishing Repertory Dance Theatre as the nation’s first repertory dance company. Today, Smith continues to push the boundaries by commissioning new work and re-staging historical masterpieces. Linda Smith and other well-deserving alumni (Brad Smith, Tori Baker, Adelaide Sinclair, and Jeff Frank) will be honored next week at the Legacy Assembly. Featuring live performances from current students and highlights form the careers and accomplishments of this year's honorees, the Distinguished Alumni Awards Legacy Assembly brings together a community of artists to honor their significant contributions to each respective area.   Learn More
