Utah Film Center is proud to present the sixth annual Peek Award for Disability in Media to Academy-Award winning director Roger Ross Williams, the director of Life, Animated. The Peek Award honors media makers who positively impact our society’s awareness and perception of persons with disabilities.

Life, Animated documents the inspirational story of Owen Suskind, a young man who was unable to speak as a child until he and his family discovered a unique way to communicate by immersing themselves in the world of classic Disney animated films. As with his previous films, through superb storytelling, Roger Ross Williams introduces us to a subject that engages and inspires.

The Peek Award will be presented prior to a screening of Life, Animated. Following the film, KUER RadioWest host Doug Fabrizio will moderate a Q&A with Roger Ross Williams and Pulitzer Prize‒winning journalist Ron Suskind, Owen’s father and author of the book that inspired the film.

Please join us in celebrating filmmakers who illuminate new understandings of those living with disabilities.
