Sanpete County in Paintings and Photographs is a collection of colorful landscape photographs and striking plein-air paintings by artists Mary and Kent Fairbanks.
The Utah Division of Arts & Museums is pleased to present Sanpete County in Paintings and Photographs by Mary P. Fairbanks and P. Kent Fairbanks. Mary's paintings seen in this exhibition are the result of plein-air competitions organized by Spring City Arts, from my travels throughout Sanpete County, and from her own backyard in Ephraim. For Mary, the ideal painting subjects are beautifully clean skies, farmland, farm animals, birds, and gardens. Kent Fairbanks has been a practicing architect for 45 years, through which he gained an appreciation for texture, color, lines, and forms in art and photography. Kent calls his photographs “photopaintings” as they are created not to document reality but to express feelings. He believes, that a successful “photopainting” should allow personal and emotional interpretation of the subject being photographed and the unique beauty and qualities they possess. Location: 4th Floor Gallery at the Utah State Capitol https://utahstatecapitol.utah.gov/explore/capitol-art
