Relief sculpture is one of the most intriguing and oftentimes difficult-to-understand art forms. Many consider relief sculpture a cross between Drawing and Sculpture, and although there are many similarities, Relief work poses challenges that baffle sculptors and painters alike. Your teacher Daniel Borup will walk you through his approach to creating relief sculpture which has been developed from years of study, experimentation, and lessons learned from teaching hundreds of students the ins and outs of relief sculpting. A strong focus will be given to the portrait and human form. Students will be working from photos. Students are encouraged to bring their own reference photos, although this is not required.
