NOVA Chamber Music Series Announces 40th Anniversary Season Program

SALT LAKE CITY — NOVA Chamber Music Series embarks on an ambitious season in celebration of 40 years of sublime and exciting chamber music concerts in Utah. Highlights include:

 

-Six Subscription Series concerts featuring six outstanding Utah musicians as soloists in chamber concerti as well as commissioned works from six composers.

 

-The Fry Street Quartet returns to the Gallery Series for the exciting conclusion of their complete cycle of Bartók and Haydn opus 76 quartets.

 

-American Visionary: A Festival Celebrating the Music of Michael Hersch. NOVA is collaborating with other arts organizations in Salt Lake City in a four-day festival devoted to the music of the extraordinary American composer Michael Hersch.

 

The 40th Anniversary Season begins on October 29, 2017 with Utah Symphony Concertmaster Madeline Adkins as soloist in Chausson’s Chamber Concerto with the Fry Street Quartet. Composer Nicolas Chuaqui has been commissioned to write a brass quintet, while Miguel Chuaqui is composing a new work for the Fry Street Quartet. Ravel’s sensational La Valse will be performed by pianists Jason Hardink and Kimi Kawashima.

 

Over the course of the 2017-18 Subscription Series, NOVA will feature incredible musicians including cellist Rainer Eudeikis, violinist Kathryn Eberle, trombonist Mark Davidson, percussionist Keith Carrick, cellist Anne Francis Bayless and violist Brant Bayless. NOVA will also be showcasing prominent Utah composers, including Morris Rosenzweig, Inés Thiebaut, and Phillip Bimstein.

 

The 40th Anniversary Season concludes on May 6, 2018 with music by Schubert and acclaimed guest composer Augusta Read Thomas. Ms. Thomas has composed a new, interdisciplinary work for NOVA with the support of the Sounds of Science Commissioning Club. Featured artists include Utah Symphony Music Director Thierry Fischer, soprano Melissa Heath singing Schubert lieder, and an all-star lineup of Utah musicians for Schubert’s Octet.

NOVA’s subscription series consists of six concerts, with each performance juxtaposing old and new music performed by Utah’s talented local musicians. Programming includes works by both local and nationally renowned composers.
