Craft Lake City Announces Artisan Scholarship Recipients for the
9th Annual DIY Festival Presented by Harmons


Salt Lake City, Jun 20  Craft Lake City® announces the recipients of the first-ever Artisan Scholarships for the 2017 DIY Festival®. The recipients are:

  • Saadiyah Hassan, Ashikat Kitchen
  • Ella Mendoza, ellita
  • Stevie Dutson, Stevie Dutson Art
  • Logan Olsen, Cedar and Rye
  • Asia Dutson, Asia Raine Designs

The Artisan Scholarship program is an initiative of Craft Lake City's Community Inclusion Program. The goal of the Community Inclusion Program is to support individuals from traditionally marginalized communities in order to provide the entire community with opportunities to creatively and economically thrive. The Artisan Scholarship program seeks to ensure that artisans who may not otherwise be able to participate in the DIY Festival are able to attend and reap the benefits of participationattracting new customers, promoting their work to new audiences, seeking new opportunities and growing their sales.

All accepted first-time DIY Festival exhibitors who meet the qualifications for the Artisan Scholarship program were invited to apply. Craft Lake City then worked with an anonymous jury to select five applicants to receive the scholarships. The Artisan Scholarship jury is comprised of leaders from the communities that Craft Lake City's Community Inclusion Program is designed to serve. The scholarship includes waived booth fees, business training, and one-on-one mentorship before, during and after the Festival.

Artisan Scholarship recipients will be paired with Artisan Ambassadors, experienced DIY Festival alumni who will share their expertise in areas such as merchandising, booth design, financial management, marketing and sales.

"The Craft Lake City DIY Festival has become an invaluable experience for many local artisans and small businesses, allowing them to share their work and test new products," said Shelbey Lang, Craft Lake City Artisan & Programs Coordinator. "We are dedicated to continuing to expand our reach and providing equal opportunity for all."

The 9th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival will be held at the Gallivan Center, 239 S. Main Street, on Friday, Aug. 11, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.Saturday, Aug. 12, from noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 13, from noon to 7 p.m. Purchase tickets here.
