Variety of Grants Available to Cultural Businesses Today

The Utah Department of Cultural & Community Engagement, Venturous Theater Fund, and the Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity has opened new grant opportunities for cultural businesses in Utah. Take a look below to find descriptions for each of these grant applications and apply today.

Community, Heritage, & Cultural Events Grant

This grant will support events throughout our state that celebrate community, heritage and culture. Events must be led by a Utah-based non-profit organization, municipality, or tribal government, and they must take place between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023. The maximum request amount is up to 25% of event cost, not to exceed $100,000. The deadline for application is June 20, 2022.

Event Service Industry Revitalization Grant - Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity

The Utah Legislature authorized $4,500,000 to Utah-based privately owned event equipment or service providers that primarily work off-premise, and were negatively impacted by COVID-19. 

Revenue Loss Criteria and Award Amounts

We calculate revenue loss for the Event Service Industry Revitalization Grant by comparing any consecutive three months in 2019 to the same three-month period in 2021 or 2022.

Tranche A: $1,750,000

• Businesses with 2019 annual revenue less than $350,000
• Award 15% of 2019 revenue up to $52,500

Tranche B: $1,750,000

• Businesses with 2019 annual revenue between $350,000 and $1,000,000
• Award 15% of 2019 revenue up to $150,000

Tranche C: $1,000,000

• Businesses with 2019 annual revenue greater than $1,000,000
• Award 15% of 2019 revenue up to $200,000

The grant program prioritizes each tranche to applicants with the highest percentage of revenue loss.

Funds may be moved from one tranche to another if the applications do not exhaust the total amount identified. The grant program will prioritize small businesses in Tranche A.

The application portal for the grant will open on June 14, 2022, at 9 a.m. and close on June 16, 2022, at 5 p.m. (MDT). Recipients should be notified beginning on July 7, 2022, and recipients should receive checks within a week of notification.
