Groundbreaking: Innovations in Clay
Dear Valued Members & Supporters,
The Kimball Art Center’s first show dedicated to contemporary ceramics, Groundbreaking: Innovations in Clay, is open and we could not be more excited to be hosting 12 incredible ceramicists, including Akio Takamori, Lauren Mabry, Christina West and more. This exhibition brings together a celebrated group of artists from across the country who are deconstructing the traditions of form and mark making to open up provocative new places in the world of ceramics. In our Cafe Gallery, the photographs of Christopher Boffoli play with perspective and our imaginations as he brings together big food and tiny people. Boffoli’s work will be up through March 19th. I hope that you will come by the Kimball and see both of these fabulous shows while they are still up.
Last month, we launched Paint and Draw Open Studio to accompany our already successful Kimball Clay Open Studio. On Fridays from 1:00 p.m. -  5:00 p.m., we invite the community into our studio space to be inspired and make. Both Open Studios are $10.00 and either include the clay and firing or the drawing supplies. Finding time to stop and create in our busy lives can be difficult but please join us for Open Studio and intentionally make time to make!
Best Regards,
Robin

March Member Spotlight
Jane Hwang, Kimball Clay Studio Member
"Being a member at the Kimball Art Center has been a great outlet for my creativity in my busy life. It gives me the community that I have been missing since finishing my BFA at the University of Utah. The support is overwhelming and the freedom to explore is endless. Without being a member I wouldn’t have access nor the opportunity to connect or meet with nationally recognized professional artists that the Kimball brings in through their gallery. The experience and knowledge here is priceless and it’s truly a gem in the small Art community here in Utah."

Jane and fellow Studio Member, Aaron Rotchadl work will be for sale in the Gift Shop during our all ceramics, Groundbreaking: Innovations in Clay exhibition.
EXHIBITIONS
Groundbreaking: Innovations In Clay
Main Gallery: February 18 - April 16
Groundbreaking includes emerging artists like Alwyn O'Brien and Adam Shiverdecker, as well as established artists in the field like Akio Takamori and Kurt Weiser.
We have a thriving community of makers in all mediums, particularly at the Kimball Clay ceramics studio.  We thought it was good timing to bring together state-of-the-art ceramicists with our making community and encourage the intersection of the two. Some of the exhibiting artists will be offering workshops during the run of the show and two of our Kimball Clay members are selling their wares in our gift shop. All of this unique work on display is for sale.

Food for Thought:
Photographs by Christopher Boffoli
Café Gallery: January 19 - March 19
Christopher Boffoli's photographs feature tiny people in a world of big food. Begun in 2002 and inspired by the films and television shows of his childhood, the Big Appetites series has been published in more than 100 countries around the world, and featured in the New York TimesWashington Post, and Village Voice, among many more. His clever photographic vignettes evoke an uncanny likeness to the world at large and, while eminently humorous, also inspire deeper reflections of our relationship to food. Boffoli's playful work on display is for sale as well as smaller prints in our Gift Shop.
