Music has always been a part of my life, starting in 4th grade, when I played violin in our school orchestra, on through junior and high school, when I played cello, and also participated in the a cappella choir.  Writing has also been very important - my high school had a program for "Able and Gifted" students to attend classes at our local college, where I was selected to participate in the Creative Writing classes.  This experience started me on a professional writing path, with my eventually having written a nationally syndicated column which dealt with disability issues.  I also wrote a creative non-fiction/autobiographical book that won second place in its category in the Utah Arts Council OriginalWriting Competition several years ago.
