I have spent a significant portion of my career furthering the arts in Utah, a sector that not only drives our economy in a meaningful way, but which is a source of compassion and empathy in our communities. As a member of the Sundance organization at its start, I have been involved with the Sundance Film Festival for many years and seen the tremendous impact it has had, statewide, both culturally and economically. I even embarked on the production and direction of my own film several years ago, a documentary called THE GRAND RESCUE which told the story of a rescue-mission at Grand Teton of which my dad was an integral part. My two boys are both engaged in the arts, my son Max, a lover of music, and my son Zach, who explores the artistic world through a technological lens - creating his own interactive, immersive video games. I know that access to learning about the arts in school has been a source spark for them, and I think it's critical we offer these outlets, and catalysts to young people at an even increased level.
