Indulge in the Songs of the Season

Written by Lola Taylor

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Songs of the Season, the annual SUU Music Department holiday show, will be performed at the Cedar City Heritage Center Theater on Friday, December 2, 2016, at 7:30 pm. Admission to Songs of the Season is $10 for adults and $5 for youth. SUU faculty, staff and students are admitted free with a valid ID card. The evening will be filled with holiday music from all over the world, as well as some of your best-loved favorites, all performed by SUU’s award winning musical ensembles.

Songs of the Season features the SUU Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Opus Choir, Concert Choir, and the Women’s Choir performing individually or in combining their forces to share the glory of the season. The musical arrangements will consist of traditional carols and folk music, along with new pieces.

Dr. Steven Meredith, Director of Choral Activities and Music Technology at SUU, said, “this show, despite the logistical challenges involved, is one of his favorite performances of the year. “Trying to get 170+ music students onstage is always interesting, but despite the crowded conditions, the students always enjoy bringing the spirit of the season to the audience. Plus, the opportunity for the instrumental and vocal ensembles to perform together always builds great camaraderie in the department.”

Keith Bradshaw, SUU Chair of the Department of Music and Professor of Music, said, “This show is a great way to welcome the season. So much wonderful music has been written for and about Christmas. For me, the music is what makes the season come alive.”

This is a great way to jumpstart your holiday season, so be sure to mark your calendar to attend this show. For more information, please visit www.suu.edu/pva/music.
