Summer Rainfall
Sibylle Szaggars Redford
August 5 - September 25, 2016
Summer Rainfall is the culmination of Sibylle Szaggars Redford's long collaboration with the monsoon rains of Northern New Mexico, the gentle rains of the Napa Valley, and the mountain rains of Utah. Continually expanding the vision of this collaboration, the works in this exhibition range from her original rain paintings, in which she applies pigments directly to dry paper and then allows rainfall to chart their paths, to large printed silks, photographs, and films--all capturing the intense, radiant patterns of color and form created when the rain mixes with the pigment. The unpredictability inherent in the process leads to images that are randomly created, but finely tuned to the rhythms of nature. Redford's highly evocative work continues her mission as an environmental artist, raising awareness of our changing climate and weather patterns, and inspiring a deeper connection to the world around us.
