A week long salute to Cedar City’s railroad & Hollywood movie history in honor of the 150th anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad and the Driving of the Golden Spike

Cedar City celebrates Spike 150 and the community's ties to the railroad industry.  This week of events includes a screening of the classic Cecil B. Demile film Union Pacific, which was filmed in Cedar City. The opening of the Spike 150 Exhibit "A World Transformed-The Transcontinental Railroad and Utah” at the Southern Utah Museum of Art. There will be a gallery talk about the exhibit and Wonder Wednesday will be railroad themed activities for children K-5. The Iron County Historical Society will host a guest lecture by Iron County Historian Ryan Paul "Traveling the Painted Canyons: The Utah Parks Company 1923-73".  The week culminates with a Downtown Mural unveiling & celebration  where Historic Downtown unveils their mural project commemorating  the Spike 150 Celebration,  Utah Parks Company and Union Pacific Railroad.  All events are FREE!
