Hi Everyone,

Let’s get ready to kickoff the Annual Archaeology and Historic Preservation Month in May 2017 by putting an activity or event together in your community.

Our goal this year is to get at least one public event in each of Utah’s 29 diverse counties.  Towards this end we are soliciting service projects, kids or adult events, lectures and symposia, archaeological dig or historic home/downtown tours, vintage films in historic theaters, preservation workshops, or anything else that dovetails with the mission of promoting and celebrating Utah’s archaeological and historical heritage. Last year over 3000 Utahns participated in 50 events in 16 counties.

If you or your organization are interested in participating in this year’s statewide list of events please fill the online submission form (click here).Events large and small are welcome, but we urge a public orientation that engages and informs.

If that does not work, feel free to submit a project directly to Chris Merritt ([email protected]). We will maintain a calendar of events on our website and compile a small digital brochure that we will circulate before May to as many other parties and partners we can wrangle.  We will the host the events calendar online on our website (https://heritage.utah.gov/history/archaeology-historic-preservation-month-2017) While that page is under construction, we will be collecting your events and do a big launch when we get enough submissions.

Finally, please find one of four promotional posters we will be producing for this year’s events. We will be posting these posters on the same website for download and printing, but will also be printing some hard copies to share with our partners.

Thank you for your continued support of archaeology and historic preservation in Utah.
