Black License Plate Fund is at Risk - Show Your Support!
Created in 2023, the fund supports the Utah Historical Society and the future Museum of Utah through sales of the iconic black plates. But HB324 threatens this. It caps funding for the Historical Society at just $500,000 a year, redirecting the rest to the Department of Transportation Fund. This could strip millions from programs, exhibitions, and outreach that support Utah’s cultural heritage.
HB324 jeopardizes the future of the Utah Historical Society and Museum of Utah's ability to be the hub-and-spoke model providing much needed support and resources to the history and cultural community statewide.
This morning, members of the House Transportation Standing Committee met to discuss HB324- the Black License Plate fund which supports the Utah Historical Society and the future Museum of Utah. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend, testify, email or call the committee members to share your opposition. After a lot of discussion, it was determined that more time is needed, and it is currently on hold.
