Art Access has teamed up with Jill Johnson, a MAAT certified art therapist, to offer survivors of sexual assault a safe and creative forum to express their experiences, emotions and trauma.

Based on the Open Studio Project, founded in Chicago, participants will explore various art mediums individually and through a collective group experience. Participants will learn about intention, art-making and witness writing. This is an opportunity for previous participants to continue their self-exploration or for new participants to engage in this unique form of therapy.

Here is what past participants have said about this workshop:

"Silently dealing with childhood sexual trauma for about 40 years was slowly killing me from the inside...Having a nurturing, caring, welcoming, VALIDATING, and creative experience with the other survivors helped me reduce the negative stigma I felt about therapy. I was able to begin to express my true emotions and who I truly am in a safe and non-judgemental environment."

"I have been doing various methods of healing work for the past twenty eight years. The Art Therapy class took my healing to another level. It was amazing and thought provoking. I thought that I had done all of the work regarding my rape; however the class uncovered a new layer which hadn’t been dealt with, and was lying deeply within me, affecting me."

"...an incredibly powerful, positive way to process what happened to me as a teenager in a safe, supportive environment, among women who had similar experiences. Jill was incredibly empathic and allowed the healing to unfold week after week in a wonderfully nurturing environmnent.
