STATEMENT ON THE INTERSECTION OF THE ARTS, HISTORY, AND COMMUNITY DIALOGUE
On Friday, August 18, Americans for the Arts released a statement standing against racism, bigotry, and hatred, and about the complex and important impact of public art, including monuments to the Confederacy. Public art reflects the stories and histories we most want to tell ourselves, the lessons we want to learn, the pride we collectively hold, and the memories and priorities with which we craft our communities' futures.

AMERICANS FOR THE ARTS HOSTS CONGRESSIONAL STAFF
On August 3, Americans for the Arts Vice President of Research & Policy Randy Cohen traveled to Capitol Hill to present the results of Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 (AEP5). The separate U.S. House and U.S. Senate briefings were held in coordination with the Congressional Arts Caucus and the Senate Cultural Caucus. 

TENNESSEE ARTS ORGANIZATIONS SEE ADVOCACY SUCCESS
Since the start of the year, Tennessee organizations representing museum, arts, and humanities fields have been working closely with new Chairman of the U.S. House Budget Committee Diane Black (R-TN).

AMERICANS FOR THE ARTS SIGNS STATEMENT OF COLLABORATION WITH THE NATIONAL LIEUTENANT GOVERNORS ASSOCIATION REGARDING THE STATE MILITARY AND VETERANS ARTS INITIATIVE
The National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) and Americans for the Arts recently signed a first-of-its-kind collaboration supporting the military and their families. 

LOUISIANA LT. GOVERNOR BILLY NUNGESSER RECEIVES 2017 PUBLIC LEADERSHIP IN THE ARTS AWARD FOR STATE ARTS LEADERSHIP
Americans for the Arts and the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) recently presented Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser with the Public Leadership in the Arts Award for State Arts Leadership at NLGA's annual meeting in Nashville, TN. 

CARVER COUNTY, MN COMMISSIONER RANDY MALUCHNIK RECEIVES 2017 PUBLIC LEADERSHIP IN THE ARTS AWARD FOR COUNTY ARTS LEADERSHIP 
Americans for the Arts and the National Association of Counties (NACo) recently announced that Commissioner Randy Maluchnik of Carver County, Minnesota was awarded the Public Leadership in the Arts Award for County Arts Leadership on Sunday at NACo's annual conference in Columbus, OH.
