Absolutely! I started taking piano lessons when I was 6, and studied piano for nine years. I was also involved in my school musicals and dance company and I learned so many great things as well as improved my self-confidence. We love taking our family to musicals, plays, and other performances and feel like our kids are more emotionally connected because of the arts. All four of my kids have been involved in theater and have learned musical instruments. We tell them that since we don‰Ûªt live on a farm, that they get to take music lessons from age 4 until they are seniors in high school. Studying music teaches them that they can do hard things, to not quit when life gets hard, to work hard and feel the personal rewards from doing so, and that music makes them smarter. Doing music lessons with my kids has been the hardest thing I‰Ûªve done as a parent - we did the Suzuki method, which is very parent-intensive. But I wouldn‰Ûªt trade it for anything.
