JOB DESCRIPTION
Utah Cultural Alliance (UCA) — the industry association representing arts, culture, and entertainment – seeks a communications and advocacy professional with knowledge of the Utah legislative process to manage its advocacy activities during the 2025 Utah legislative session.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Advocacy Coordination
- Assist UCA administration with coordinating the department’s legislative priorities and communication efforts.
- Research, track, and monitor legislation impacting the arts and culture industry.
- Facilitate cooperation and alignment between UCA and the Utah Department of Cultural and Community Engagement (CCE); contract lobbyist, UCA member organizations and individuals; and other important stakeholders as needed.
- Participate in the planning and execution of 2025 Cultural Industry Advocacy Day activities including but not limited to the UT Mural project and photo bingo
- Participate in the planning, execution and maintenance of the 45 Days of Advocacy Digital Campaign
- Serve as the point of contact for the Cultural Day Gifts with Made by Fell which includes ensuring high quality of gift design, gift duplication, and accompanying materials; Ensuring the gifts are delivered to the State Capitol and matched with captains for distribution
- Attend UCA Advocacy Committee meetings and meetings with our Lobbyist as needed
- Attend appropriations and standing committee meetings when possible.
- Keep the UCA Executive Director in the loop throughout the session.
Advocacy Communication
- Prepare any communication materials on behalf of UCA, including fact sheets, backgrounders, position statements, and messaging for committee meetings.
- Communicate daily internal updates and weekly external updates to the appropriate stakeholders.
- Develop content for both internal and external audiences, like newsletters, media releases, briefings, and editorials.
- Create digital content for the department website and social media platforms.
- Assist Executive Director and UCA contractors with phone calls, member or board information requests, general inquiries, and other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred.
- A background in political science or communications and interest and experience with the arts and culture sector.
- Understanding of the Utah legislative process, including its leadership and elected members, and UCA’s partners across the arts and culture sector.
- Be organized, personable, and able to prioritize and work well with others.
- Ability to communicate UCA’s legislative priorities to an external audience.
- Demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking capabilities.

- Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a faced-paced, high-stakes environment.
- Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive (and google office products), Apple iWork, Adobe Creative Cloud, and comfortable working in customer/content/donor database management systems (CMS).
- Experience working with NationBuilder and BillTracker specifically is a plus.
- Current, valid driver's license; use of a private vehicle; and valid automobile insurance.
