Featuring Utah Symphony musicians Kathryn Eberle and Yuan Qi, Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante (a hybrid of a concerto and symphony) showcases Mozart's ingenious back and forth between the bright-sounding violin and darker tones of the viola. Ravel's Mother Goose Suite opens the concert with the orchestra retelling Sleeping Beauty, Tom Thumb, Beauty and the Beast, and other children's stories. To conclude the program, Poulenc's whimsical Sinfonietta samples not only from his own music, but also Mozart and Offenbach, while harkening back to memories of the colorful, animated melodies of 1920s France.
