Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Trey Hill, professional sculptor and Associate Professor at The University of Montana, will speak on Finding Your Edge at Art Insights September 22, 2016, 7 PM in the Southern Utah Museum of Art located on the Southern University campus. Hill will be discussing his processes and techniques and the content that influences his work.

Hill received his BFA from Bowling Green State University in 1999 and an MFA from San Jose State University in 2002. His work has been shown in galleries and museums both internationally and throughout the United States. Hill’s artist residenciesallowed him to travel and have creative experiences in places such as The International Studio in Jingdezhen, China, and the Rojal Art Laboratory in Roja, Latvia.

As a teacher of both ceramics and sculpture, Hill employs human anatomy and other recognizable images to create pieces that reflect the complexity of human experience. His work hints at the fragile beauty of the exterior that hides emotions and the strength that lies beneath the surface.

When asked about his new body of work, Hill said, “[It] springs from the lure of attraction, seduction, sensuality, beauty and grace. I pull forth emotions that are at once beautiful and raucous, yet elemental and essential, all the while exploring human hesitancies. I aim to seduce the senses while exploring the fragile boundaries that weave human sexuality, strength, power, emotion, and vulnerability into one cohesive identity.”

Art Insights is hosted during the fall and spring semesters by SUU’s Art & Design faculty. Students and community members meet to experience presentations and discussions by visiting artists and art educators from around the nation who share their work and insights.
