Should government be involved in funding the arts and humanities?

Yes

Please explain your answer (one or two sentences is sufficient):

I think that on the state and community level government should be involved in supporting the arts and humanities.  Otherwise it is left up to private funding which is also a good thing.  But the more people are aware and support the arts the more of an impact it can have on the people.

If your office could impact legislation, would you support a bill that exempts cultural non-profits from property tax?

Yes

Please explain your answer to (one or two sentences is sufficient):

I am surprised to hear that cultural non-profits pay taxes.  If the property tax benefits the arts then I would want to look at how effective it is.

Would you support a minor increase to bed or tourism taxes to fund more cultural districts in your community?

Yes

Please explain your answer (one or two sentences is sufficient):

Without knowing what is happening already, I would be inclined to support it.  Our tourism is up and they would also benefit from our arts and culture.

Last year the state legislature passed a bill (HB223 Local Historic District Amendments) restricting the creation of historical districts. What are your thoughts about historic preservation? (One or two sentences is sufficient).

I support historic preservation.  Once it is gone, the people will forget about it.

Have you had a personal experience with arts, culture, or humanities that has had an impact on your life? Please explain (one or two sentences is sufficient).

I have had each of my 5 children and my wife and I participate in the arts and culture.  We live in a very diverse community.  We love the many cultures and participating in many different events and activities.
