The Eccles Organ Festival presents the 24 th Concert Season

The 24 th Season of the Eccles Organ Festival begins Sunday September 10, 2017 at 8:00 PM at the
Cathedral of the Madeleine.

The Eccles Organ Festival is an internationally recognized organ recital series, which seeks to provide the
highest quality and most engaging organ performances free of charge to Salt Lake audiences. This
season the Festival presents six internationally recognized organ performers – one more than in the
previous editions – from September to March (with the exception of December) to the Salt Lake
community. Five concerts feature world renowned musicians performing on the majestic Kenneth Jones
Cathedral Organ in the historic Cathedral of the Madeleine. In March 2017 a sixth performance and a
Masterclass will be offered at Libby Gardner Concert Hall, at the University of Utah, featuring the
gorgeous Lively-Fulcher organ.

The performer for the opening recital will be Richard Elliott. Acclaimed concert organist and leading
figure of the Great Salt Lake organ community, Dr. Elliott has been the Principal Salt Lake Tabernacle
Organist since 1991. Prior to his appointment as Tabernacle organist in 1991, he was an assistant
professor of organ at Brigham Young University and, previously, assistant organist for Philadelphia’s
famed Wanamaker organ. The program will include music by Bach, Duruflé and an organ transcription of
Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exibition.

This Season’s International performers will be Martin Baker, Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral
in London and worldwide praised organ soloist, and French organist Thomas Ospital, recently appointed
successor of Jean Guillou as Organist Titulaire of the Grand Organ at Saint-Eustache Church in Paris; Mr.
Ospital is a young artist who has quickly earned a place amongst the world’s finest concert organists.
Other performers appearing in this 24 th Season of the Festival will be: Dexter Kennedy, awarded in 2014
the Grand Prix d’Interprétation at the Concours International d’Orgue de Chartres; David
Baskeyfield, an English concert organist living in Rochester, New York who has earned a reputation for
creative programing, intelligent interpretation and expressive musicality; Crista Miller, Organist and
Director of Music of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Houston TX who will perform the last
concert of the season at Libby Gardner Concert Hall.
