UtahPresents Announces 2017-18 Season

Salt Lake City, UT – May 24, 2017 –UtahPresents, the performing arts presenter on the University of Utah campus, announces its 2017-18 line-up of exciting performances, providing an abundance of creative and cultural experiences for the campus and regional community.

The 2017-18 season builds on UtahPresents’ mission to create connections between artists and community members, and reflects the diversity of the region through new and ongoing partnerships with campus and community organizations. These partnerships include the Confucius Institute, bringing Sichuan University Art Troupe on October 1 as part of Chinese Culture Week on campus; the University of Utah Sustainability Office, bringing acclaimed biodiversity scholar and activist Dr. Vandana Shiva to campus to speak about environmental and social justice issues worldwide; and the Division of Medical Ethics and Humanities, along with the Department of Theatre, to present a staged reading of Brian Friel’s Molly Sweeney, a riveting drama about the consequences of pursuing a “cure” at any cost.

Highlights of the 2017-18 season include Doug Varone and Dancers, performing with students from the School of Dance and including a special guest performance by Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company; Manual Cinema, a performance collective using overhead projectors, screens, puppets, and live music, to create an immersive “movie” live in front of the audience; and the creation of a unique set of performances, called Stagedoor, with patrons entering through the stage door and sitting on the stage at Kingsbury Hall for a unique and intimate performing arts experience.

The season also includes perennial favorites like the Banff Film Festival, a collection of outdoor films that take audiences to some of the most intense and beautiful locations in the world and University of Utah Youth Theatre’s fun and family-friendly performance of “Schoolhouse Rock Live, Jr.”

The Youth Theatre performances, and the Compagnia T.P.O. performances of “Farfalle” include sensory-friendly performances, designed to create an atmosphere that is friendly and welcoming to families with children on the autism spectrum or other sensory sensitivities. More information about these performances is available at utahpresents.org.
