Summer is an exciting time at the Kimball Art Center, as we have the opportunity to invite nationally known artists to Park City to share their skills and creativity with our community.

 
Maria Borghoff

Through collaborative art projects and group workshops, Maria teaches the art of integration. Her goal is to create harmony through positive change by combining, movement, meditation, nutrition, art-making, and environmental rituals. 

Yoga For Creatives
Saturday + Sunday, June 17 + 18,
10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

This workshop series will help you explore your creative process through gentle movement, meditation, journaling, ceramic art and weaving. On Saturday, we will use mixed-media weaving to explore our conscious desires and habitual behaviors by making a tapestry that harnesses the power of intention. On Sunday, will use clay to create palate patters that reflect our unique experience of perception and action. 

Somatic Drawing 
Monday - Thursday, June 19 - 226:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Drawing is a skill that anyone can learn, and somatic means “living body.” When we practice Somatic Drawing, we are tuned in with all that encompasses being a living and breathing human being. We will explore the fives Koshas (layers of the body) through mindful awareness, observation practices, internal landscape study, and various methods and materials for drawing.

Nancy Paris Pruden
Nancy Paris Pruden, an award winning artist, lives and works in Houston, TX, where she is represented by Thornwood Gallery, Houston. She paints from life Alla Prima style in oils focusing on color and texture.

Plein Air in Oils: Workshop I

After a morning introduction with instructional material and a demonstration, the class will go to various locations in Park City to paint outdoors. The workshop will concentrate on composition, color mixing, atmospheric perspective, edges, color temperatures, and values. All ability levels welcome.

Plein Air in Oils: Workshop II
Friday - Sunday, July 28 - 3010:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Kath Macaulay

"Learn enough to play for a lifetime" is Kath's motto for the Pocket Sketching technique she created. Kath leads workshops and tutorials all over the US in the mindful, relaxing, and meditative practice of Pocket Sketching.  

Pocket Sketching Workshop
Friday - Sunday, July 14 - 1610:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Explore Park City as you learn the technique of pocket sketching with Kath Macaulay.  This quick-draw technique allows anyone to “journal” wherever they are using only a 4 x 6 art pad, a pen, a small paint set, a brush and a film canister of water. Perfect for hiking, sitting in a café or standing in line. Take it anywhere, and preserve a memory.

Pocket Sketching Refresher
Monday, July 17, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

This course has been programmed for students who have already taken the Pocket Sketching Workshop with Kath in past years, and are interested in a refresher course.  Students who have not taken Kath’s course previously should not enroll.  During the refresher course, Kath will emphasize speed, sketching in public, and editing to the focal point. 

Katherine England

Katherine England is a prolific visual artist who lives and works in Fullerton, CA. In addition to creating public works, her favorite art medium is glass and she teaches in schools, in her studio, and at art retreats nationwide.  

Mosaics 101 + 201
Monday - Wednesday, July 17 - 195:00 - 8:00 p.m.

This class is meant for both beginners and experienced students. Create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece made of glass you have nipped yourself. Learn how to design, choose color, form lines and shape to create a fantastic piece of art. By the end of class you will be confident in all the skills needed to create art in this medium.

Right Brain Creative Drawing + Journaling Workshop
Saturday + Sunday, July 22 + 23, 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

This class explores the ritual of daily journaling with the goal of learning self-expression in ways that are satisfying  and visually interesting. Students will learn new skills in using the artist eye for realistic drawings, and will discuss how to transition to a more creative creative approach. Artwork will be encased in a nickel silver and hand embossed book cover.

Debra Dolsberry

 Debra resides in Kailua-Kona, HI teaching workshops in her studio. She has been silk painting all her life. Her silk motifs are drawn from nature, using tropical themes such as hibiscus, plumeria, and banana leaves.

Introduction to Silk Painting
Saturday + Sunday, August 26 + 27, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

This workshop is an introduction to silk painting using dyes and resists. Over the course of 2 days, students will paint three to four scarves or wall hangings. No art experience is necessary. First, students will learn about dyes and how they combine on the silk. Students will also be introduced to basic color theories working with magenta, yellow, blue, and black pigment.
