Craft Lake City to Feature FIRST Robotics Exhibit at
8th Annual DIY Festival

Salt Lake City, Aug. 9  Craft Lake City is pleased to announce that Utah's FIRST Robotics will be exhibiting at the 8th Annual DIY Festival, being held on Friday, Aug. 12, Saturday, Aug. 13, and Sunday, Aug. 14.

In support of Craft Lake City's mission to promote creative uses of science and technology, Utah's FIRST Robotics will host two exhibits at the festival:

  • FIRST Tech Challenge - Head east of the SLUG Mag stage to watch teams demonstrate robots in a 12' x 12' field.
  • FIRST Robotics Challenge - Watch teams demonstrate large robots similar to those used in the world-renowned FIRST Robotics Competitions. Demos will occur under the west staircase at the Google Fiber STEM Building, and in front of the SLUG Mag stage during breaks between performances.
FIRST Utah Robotics' mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build skills in science, engineering and technology innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

Jared Berrett is the Regional Director for FIRST Utah Robotics and has a PhD in Educational Psychology. "It's critical that kids get excited about learning at a very young," says Berrett. "FIRST Utah Robotics provides motivational programs to allow kids to exercise their natural learning abilities at a high level and prepare them for careers in STEM fields."

The DIY Festival will be held Friday, Aug. 12, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 13, from noon to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 14, from noon to 7 p.m. The festival features over 250 artisans, craft foodies and DIY engineers, as well as two stages with live music and dance by local performers. Tickets can be purchased at 24tix.com.
