Mission

The mission of the NOVA Chamber Music Series is to celebrate the vast chamber music repertoire performed by Utah's finest resident artists through concerts, commissions of new works, educational programs, and recordings.

Vision:

The NOVA Chamber Music Series is dedicated to presenting thoughtful and innovative chamber music programs performed by the finest resident musicians of Utah. Founded in 1977, NOVA is Utah's longest-running chamber music series and strives to be the premiere forum for chamber music in order to serve:

 

  • Utah AUDIENCES by presenting exceptional chamber music concerts
  • Utah ARTISTS by being a forum for resident professional musicians and contemporary composers
  • The ART FORM by raising the quality and visibility of chamber music in Utah and beyond
  • The NEXT GENERATION by inspiring young audiences and young musicians

Job Description - Artistic Director, NOVA Chamber Music Series  

The NOVA Chamber Music Series has a rich, 40-year history of presenting chamber music of the highest caliber to Utah audiences. The Artistic Director creates a programmatic vision that is unique, accessible yet challenging, and relevant to the greater Salt Lake City community.

The Artistic Director works closely with the Executive Director to strategize a realization of the programs and vision, always striving for responsible growth and maximum impact within the local arts community.

The Artistic Director is responsible for a wide variety of artistic and administrative duties as detailed below.

Artistic:
Artistic Director is responsible for all planning and programming: The Artistic Director decides on repertoire, personnel, artist fees and scheduling for each season, within a directed framework of the artistic budget. The Artistic Director has flexibility in planning each season, which most recently has included the following programmatic elements :

                -Subscription Series (6) concerts

                -Gallery Series (2) concerts

                -Special Events and repeat performances

                -Oversee Educational Outreach programming

Works closely with living composers, both local and international to identify/commission new works for NOVA to perform

Schedules and supervises final rehearsals

Cultivates collaborative partnerships with other local arts organizations (e.g. theater and dance companies, museums), and education and civic institutions as appropriate

Cultivates relationships with local colleges, universities, and music schools to include faculty members in performances and to explore potential opportunities for expanding audience membership and possible performance opportunities for NOVA

Archives and distributes recordings from concerts to performers and composers

Coordinates music and equipment rental/purchase when needed

Contracts and coordinates 1-2 guest artists per season

Directs recording projects

Marketing/PR:
Acts as spokesperson to represent NOVA and convey its artistic vision to the local arts community

Provides all artistic copy and relevant information for all marketing materials, including:

                -Concert programs

                                -Program titles, composers, performers
                                -Program notes (coordinates with program notes writer)

                                -Song translations

                                -Artist bios and affiliations when appropriate

                                -Proofreading and edits

Curates website updates and content submission to novaslc.org

Connects NOVA with local news media to promote concerts and events

Directs and coordinates all aspects of NOVA Podcast and Blog postings for each concert

In conjunction with marketing team, the Artistic Director implements social media postings and content

Financial:
The Artistic Director works closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to shape and adhere to the fiscal responsibilities of the annual budget

Audience Development/Fundraising:
Works closely with the Executive Director to cultivate and maintain relationships with donors and subscribers

Thoughtfully selects and curates programming to grow the subscriber base and widen the NOVA audience

Provides programming information and relevant artistic information for specific grant applications

Works closely with Board of Directors on fundraising, salon performances, audience development, board development, donor recognition.
