Wild Wednesdays: How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood?

Whistle pigs, woodchucks, land beavers, what do call a groundhog? Ground hogs are famous this time of year for predicting how much longer winter will last. Can they really predict our season length? Join us for an in-depth look at this creature and its marmot cousins. Please check in at the Visitor Center.

Wild Wednesdays: Wild Romance – a special valentine’s day program

Have you ever wondered if animals flirt with one another?  Come find out during our special Valentine’s Day program.  Meet some of the Ogden Nature Center’s resident birds and reptiles and discover the unique ways these animals attract a partner.  Then help us make nature themed Valentines for the birds. Please check in at the Visitor Center.
 
AndShesDopeToo (ASDT) Women’s Owl Prowl Snowshoe

Ages: Women over 18
Join ASDT, the worldwide adventure collective for women, at the Ogden Nature Center for a special night snowshoe. We’ll start with a live owl presentation and then head out on a snowshoe hike to search for wild owls and animal tracks. After the hike enjoy hot drinks, refreshments and shopping at the Nest Gift Shop. Reservations must be made atwww.andshesdopetoo.com.  Snowshoes available to rent for $5 on a first-come basis.

Cost: $3 members / $5 non-members

Explore the Ogden Nature Center by snowshoe with the whole family! Search for signs of animals and identify local animal tracks, then head out on a hike to put your new skills to use while enjoying the frosty Nature Center. End the morning relaxing with a cup of hot cocoa by the campfire. Snowshoes provided for both adults and children.  Space is limited. Call801-621-7595 to reserve your spot.
 
Preschool Discovery Days: Seasonal Surprises
Choose a date and time: 
Monday, February 13 or Tuesday, February 14
9:30 am11 am, or 1 pm
$5 members / $6 non-members
$5 per child for preschool groups over 5
For ages 3-5 and their accompanying adult
Summer, spring, winter, fall, come and learn about them all.  Explore the four seasons, play games, create art, hear stories and sing songs about the seasons.  Then play outside in the winter season. Dress for the weather. Pre-registration is required. Walk-ins will only be accepted if space is available. Classes may be canceled due to low attendance. Imagine what it would be like to have teeth that never stop growing. Rodents make up 40% of all mammal species. Join an Ogden Nature Center teacher/naturalist as we explore the world of squirrels, mice, beavers and porcupines. Please check in at the Visitor Center.

Great Backyard Bird Count
Saturday, Feb 18, 9:30 am
Cost: Free
Ages: All
Be a citizen scientist and participate in the national Great Backyard Bird Count at the Ogden Nature Center. Bring your binoculars and meet in the Discovery Room to choose your area, then head out to count for as long as you like to search for birds! 
ONC will provide tally sheets and staff will log results on the Great Back Yard Bird Count website.
