UTAH SYMPHONY’S 14TH ANNUAL DEER VALLEY® MUSIC FESTIVAL KICKS OFF IN PARK CITY WITH PATRIOTIC CELEBRATION FEATURING ACCLAIMED VOCALIST LISA VROMAN
The first of 16 concerts over six weeks during the months of July and August.
PARK CITY, Utah (June 13, 2017) – On Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 7:30 PM, the 14th annual Deer Valley® Music Festival opens with guest conductor Jerry Steichen leading Broadway star Lisa Vroman and the Utah Symphony for a special red, white, and blue celebration at Deer Valley Resort’s Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater. Established as one of America’s most versatile conductors, Jerry Steichen is currently Music Director of the Ridgefield Symphony (Connecticut), and completed twelve seasons as Principal Pops conductor of the Utah Symphony as well as fifteen seasons as Principal Pops Conductor of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. Originally from Tonkawa, Oklahoma, Mr. Steichen holds degrees from Northern Oklahoma College, Oklahoma City University and the University of Southern California. Mr. Steichen is a frequent guest conductor for symphonies across the country and has made international appearances with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo City Symphony, and much more. During ten seasons with the New York City Opera, Mr. Steichen led performances of some of the most famous operas including “La bohème,” and “L'elisir d'amore.” Mr. Steichen toured nationally as the associate conductor of “The Phantom of the Opera,” “The Secret Garden,” and “Peter Pan” and conducted “Cats” in New York for two years. He has also appeared on Broadway, portraying Manny, the Accompanist in the Tony Award-winning “Master Class.” He currently resides in New York City.
From Broadway to classics, on stage and in concert, Lisa Vroman has established herself as one of America's most versatile voices. She has been regarded as a “musical and theatrical marvel” by “The San Francisco Chronicle,” as well as “one of American Musical Theater’s most beautiful voices” by acclaimed Broadway producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh. Among her extensive repertoire, Ms. Vroman starred on Broadway, in San Francisco, and Los Angeles as Christine Daaé in “The Phantom of the Opera.” Her many roles include Rosalinda in “Die Fledermaus” as well as both Fantine and Cosette in “Les Misérables.” Ms. Vroman is a regular guest artist with symphonies including San Francisco, Cleveland, Hong Kong, Seattle, as well as Boston Pops (Keith Lockhart), and New York Pops (Carnegie Hall), among others. She received an undergraduate degree in Music Education from the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam, and a Master’s degree in Fine Arts, Opera Performance from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and was recently awarded an honorary Doctor of Music from SUNY Potsdam. Recent performances have included “An Evening of Rodgers & Hammerstein” with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, concert performances of Cole Porter's 1928 “La Revue Des Ambassadeurs” with l'Opéra de Rennes in France, a multi-city concert tour in China, and playing the role of Maria Callas in Terrence McNally's award winning play, “Master Class.”
This performance begins Utah Symphony’s 14th season of the Deer Valley® Music Festival, which will be comprised of 16 concerts over six weeks during the months of July and August. Twelve of the concerts will be held on the main stage at the Deer Valley® Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater, and feature popular music such as “The Beach Boys in concert,” “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone™ in Concert,” and “Disney in Concert A Dream is a Wish.” Prominent guest artists of the Deer Valley® Music Festival will include Leslie Odom Jr., Diana Krall, and Ben Folds.
Patriotic Celebration featuring Lisa Vroman at Snowbasin Resort
On Friday, June 30, 2017 at 8:00 PM, Utah Symphony directed by Jerry Steichen with guest vocalist Lisa Vroman will perform at the Snowbasin Resort (2925 Snow Basin Rd, Huntsville, Utah). Tickets are available for $20 for general admission lawn seating. Children 11 and under are $5 for GA. Premier VIP seating is $45, which includes premier seats closer to the stage. Please note: GA seating does not include a chair. Please bring blankets and low chairs (cannot fit a basketball underneath). Tickets are available by calling 801-399-9214 or online, or at the OSBA ticket office located at 638 26th Street, Ogden. No tickets are available in advance at Snowbasin Resort.
Music Theatre Audition Masterclass
Saturday, July 1, 2017 from 2-3:30 PM, Guest conductor Jerry Steichen will conduct a musical theatre audition masterclass for students of Utah Conservatory and Egyptian YouTheatre. This masterclass will give nine students the opportunity to each give a 10-minute mock audition and receive coaching from Mr. Steichen. Utah Conservatory will host the masterclass at St. Luke’s Church (4595 Silver Springs Dr, Park City, UT 84098). Audience attendance is free and open to the public.
Patriotic Kids Camp Performance
Students learn an entire program of patriotic & folk music, using the basic principles of singing/chorus, and presenting a program at various venues. Beginning at 5 PM on Saturday July 1st, students will perform for patrons at the Deer Valley® Music Festival as they wait in line before the Utah Symphony’s Patriotic Concert. Subscription, group, and VIP tickets for the Deer Valley Music Festival are on sale now. Prices are subject to change and increase $5 on the day of the performance. Children 3 years of age and under are free in the General Admission section. No ticket is required. Programming and guest artists subject to change. Outside food & drink is permitted. We recommend arriving early to picnic on the lawn prior to the concert. Concessions, including options from the grill and beverages, are for sale at the venue. Gourmet picnic baskets may be ordered in advance through Deer Valley. Gates open approximately at 5:30 PM to the public. Arrive early for best seating options as the venue fills up quickly for most performances. The venue is a ski hill and may be difficult for some patrons to walk up. There are a few sections with limited views due to grading. Volunteers can point out the best seating locations available. Chairs are provided in the reserved and ADA seating sections. Outside chairs can be brought in and used on the west side of the General Admission section, but must be low chairs that are no higher than 9” from the ground. A limited number of chairs are available to rent at the venue. These will sell out early for popular performances. Approximate performance time is 2 hours with one 20 minute intermission.
Free parking is available at the venue. Carpooling is strongly recommended to help alleviate traffic congestion. You may need to walk up to 0.5 mile from the parking lot to the venue, but you may utilize the drop off zone in front of the ticket office if you have larger items like coolers. Temperatures drop significantly when the sun goes down. A blanket or jacket is highly recommended. Temperature projection: Check back on the week of the performance.
